Here is some interesting reading from The Independent (UK) for the "the government can't run the railroads right, so let's privatize it all" crowd. This should be particularly good reading for the Republicans headed by Representative Mica on the Transportation Committee in the US Congress. I might also add as a footnote that the British taxpayer subsidized the British rail system to the tune of roughly 5 billion pounds (about $7.7 billion) last year. Even adjusted for 2012 that is a lot more than British Rail ever got in one year. And don't get me started on the colossal failure of the PPP experiment Transport for London (London Underground) undertook a few years ago.
