The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has just released preliminary findings regarding the AMTRAK train 188 accident on Tuesday night.
The National Transportation Safety Board reports that, according to the event recorder recovered from the locomotive, the train in question was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour. The authorized speed on the curve where the accident occurred is 50 miles per hour.
The NTSB has so far declined to say why the train was exceeding the authorized speed limit, citing the still ongoing investigation into the event.
The NTSB will hold a briefing at 17:00 hrs on the 13th of May regarding this accident.
